STRIDES

Image Special Trinity Riders Involved in Developing Equestrian Skills (STRIDES), began in 1990 as a therapeutic riding program for children and adults with developmental disabilities in the Will, Grundy and South Cook County region.

Horsemanship became part of Trinity's services after horse owners on the staff found remarkable changes among individuals who had a chance to ride. Frowners started smiling, the silent began talking, and everyone's self-esteem rose. Riding also improved coordination, listening skills, and concentration.

For the people with developmental disabilities who ride, care for, and love them, STRIDES 10 horses provide learning, exercise, employment, and fun. STRIDES is one of Trinity's most innovative and rewarding programs.

The Annual STRIDES Ride-A-Thon, held the last Saturday in August, began in 1992 and keeps getting bigger and better each year. A beautiful and fun ride, capped off by a hearty meal and the camaraderie of other horse enthusiasts is a great way to show your support for this innovative and exciting program.
