Cutting Human Services Doesn't Make Cents Campaign a Success!

Grassroots advocacy in action

Q:  When is a penny worth $500?
A:  When 50,000 of you send a message to the Governor!

Recently, many of you were asked to let the Governor know that Cutting Human Services Doesn't Make Cents, and you participated in a grassroots campaign to send pennies to Illinois Governor Quinn to illustrate that message.

All your efforts paid off in a big way.  The sponsor of the campaign, the Illinois Association of Rehabilitation Facilities, recently thanked Art Dykstra, Trinity's CEO, for helping to spread the word to all of you.  The effort was successful in that the Governor has not cut services to people with disabilities as severely as he first indicated that he would.

Advocacy only happens when people get involved.  Read Art's thank you message from Janet Stover, IARF Executive Director, and give yourselves a pat on the back.

"Art,

Thank you for your leadership within IARF and at Trinity to make the Penny Campaign a success.  I am confident that the Governor is now weighing his decisions in light of 50,000+ people watching.

I am hoping this "penny" will be a constant reminder that some fights have to be fought and that grassroots works.

Thank You!"
