Kindness Day

“Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.” --Mark Twain

Preparation for Kindness Day starts when “mailboxes” and blank note cards are placed in each department. An employee can fill out as many personal notes as they wish to as many co-workers as they choose. They can sign a note or remain anonymous. Employees also have the option of sending the person a flower which they can request to be sent with each note. Each employee can receive an unlimited number of notes, accompanied by up to 2 dozen bright, fresh-cut carnations.

After a week, the boxes are collected and sorted with the privacy of notes being protected. Soon, on the designated Kindness Day, the notes and flowers are delivered en mass.  This year, on March 27, Trinity’s 1,200 employees sent more than 19,000 notes, which were delivered with more than 13,000 colorful carnations.

Kindness Day is celebrated each year in March. It is one the important things Trinity does to maintain high morale and let people know that their work does not go unnoticed.

Kindness Day History

Harnessing the power of positive reinforcement is critical to success at Trinity Services. Bringing  out the best in employees requires a strong commitment to continual exploration of ways to recognize employees for the good things they are doing. Kindness Notes were developed in 2000 as an easy way for employees to let their co-workers know they appreciate them.  Notes say things such as, “I appreciate you”, “thanks for your smile”, “thanks for being there when I need you”, or “I’m glad you’re here”. The first year 4 staff members sorted the notes, and 8 people delivered a total of 1,200 flowers to Trinity's employees.

Kindness Day and the notes and flowers that accompany this celebration have become increasingly popular within the organization, and it is often cited by employees as "one of my favorite things about Trinity."
